Current Contest Problem

While auditing the purchasing department, the auditor noticed that ACME was buying bearings from the DELT company. Upon talking with a purchasing agent responsible for this commodity, the auditor learned that the P.O. that he'd reviewed was the very first P.O. to be issued to DELT.

The appropriate box on the P.O. was not checked indicating that reliability data was to be sent. When the auditor pointed out that the departmental procedure (not documented) covering issuing P.O.'s was to have bearing suppliers provide reliability data with each bearing shipment, the purchasing agent said he'd covered this requirement in a recent phone call with the marketing department at DELT and that the call was good enough.

Hint: What does the term "purchasing information" mean in clause 7.4.2 of the ISO 9001:2000 Standard??

Example Case Study with Solution

While auditing the end of the final asembly line, the auditor noticed that the inspector/packer was placing little tags with his inspection number written on them into the neatly packed boxes.

Nonconforming, 4.2.4, Major

The tags which are placed in the product boxes are not appropriate records as required by ISO 9001:2000. These records are not retained by ACME and therefore do not qualify as quality records.
